TEAMS of cancer survivors in Yate have raised more than £30,000 for research into the disease.

Hundreds of cancer sufferers and supporters took to the tracks at Yate Leisure Centre for a 24-hour relay in aid of Cancer Research UK back in July.

Organisers knew the Relay for Life event had been a success but it has taken until now to calculate how much money was raised.

Tina Nolan, who co-ordinates the relay, said: "Most of the money is now is and we have raised just over £31,000.

"This is the highest amount we have ever raised and as you can imagine we are over the moon to have almost doubled our funds from last year.

"This year was the biggest and best event since I have been part of the organising team, which is about five years now. I think this was because we had 17 teams from in and around Bristol and nearly 200 people taking part."

All the money raised will go to Cancer Research UK to fund further research into cancer diagnosis, treatment and cures.
