A PRE-SCHOOL and after-school club is celebrating double success this week with a top review and a grant for a new building.
Woodfield Nest Pre-school and Out-of-School Club, in Cam, was given an Outstanding grade by Ofsted in its recent inspection and has also been awarded over £400,000 in funding for a brand new building to replace its current terapin home.
The purpose-built pre-school is a modern design that will be built in the grounds of Woodfield Infant School.
A planning application has been submitted and it is hoped work would start in May and be completed early next year.
The funding, of £430,000, has come from central Government and Woodfield Nest was one of 14 pre-schools chosen by Gloucestershire County Council to receive funding for new buildings.
Pre-school manager Rachel Watts said: "We are all trying not to get excited about this but it is hard not to. To have such a lovely building in such a beautiful location will just be fantastic and great for the children."
Staff and children at the pre-school and after-school club were further cheered by the results of their recent Ofsted inspection, which graded them as Outstanding in every area – the highest that it is possible to achieve.
Staff were highly praised for ensuring children were given the best possible care and for giving children varied experiences.
Inspector Jenny Batelen said in the report: "Children’s individual needs and interests are highly valued and quickly responded to through observation and discussion with the children.
"A wide variety of activities, adult led and independent ensure that all children are able to make very good progress."
There are 123 children aged from three to eight on the roll, however a maximum of 24 children can attend pre-school or after-school club at any one time.
Mrs Batelen added: "Children enjoy their time in the pre-school and the club and make independent choices of their activities.
"Use is made of the school grounds and children in the out of school club particularly enjoy building dens on the field."
The report also noted that the club works closely with parents who praise the club as an excellent place to take children.
