PATIENTS from two very different generations have helped to unveil the new premises of a doctor’s surgery in Yate.
The oldest and the youngest patients registered with West Walk Surgery met for the official opening of the practice’s new home within the purpose-built West Gate Health Centre.
George Toogood, aged 100, and two-week-old Joseph Nutt joined in the opening celebrations of the new surgery on Monday.
Managing partner Martin Wilkes said: "The new building is a massive improvement. Although the cabins have served us well and were a vast improvement on the previous building, we appreciate it has still not been ideal."
The new surgery has four treatment rooms and 11 consulting rooms and IT and phone systems have been updated.
It is located on the first floor of the new £12million health centre, a joint venture between NHS South Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire Council.
As well as the surgery, the council’s children’s hub, physiotherapy services and an x-ray facility are already up and running. In April, a minor injuries unit, outpatient clinics for breast care, respiratory, gynaecology and gastroenterology departments will open at the centre.
It is hoped the centre will reduce up to 34,000 hospital appointments every year.
