RESIDENTS in Berkeley are claiming that calls for the busy B4066 to be repaired are being ignored.
In January, the Gazette reported that deep potholes in the road were causing damage to cars and putting drivers in danger.
However, despite extra work being carried out by the county council to repair frost damaged roads around the county, the stretch of road in question has still not been touched.
"We are having to straddle the white line to avoid the potholes," said Jill Badsey, reiterating claims by fellow Berkeley resident Peter Woodhams that the damaged road is causing damage to vehicles.
"All the patches that have been repaired in the past have now broken down and the cats’ eyes are even coming out of the road", added Jill, "the surface needs to be removed in its entirety and replaced.
"And to make matters worse, stretches of Tarmac on the road to the former power station have recently been resurfaced – a road that little traffic ever goes down."
She added: "The B4066 gets all the traffic to Sharpness Docks, as well as residents and visitors. It’s absolutely horrendous."
A Gloucestershire County Council spokesman said: "The B4066 is on our priority list and we are pleased to say that work will begin to resurface the road between Cattle Country and Ironmongers Lane at the end of March.
"A prolonged period of bad weather has had a severe impact on roads right across Gloucestershire and we are having to prioritise our resources, fixing the worst defects on the main routes first.
"This is a mammoth task and takes time to address, we ask road users to be patient and drive safely while this essential work is being completed."
