Vauxhall car owners in Yate urged to be extra vigilant

CAR thieves are targeting Yate, police have warned.

Officers have launched an enquiry after a vehicle was stolen from Celestine Road sometime between midnight and 7am on Monday, March 15.

The car was a Vauxhall Brava and its theft has sparked an alert after a spate of reports of the same make of car being stolen.

Two other Bravas have been stolen from Kingswood and Patchway in the past fortnight and 10 have been reported stolen in South Gloucestershire since January.

A spokesman said: "Anyone who may have witnessed these incidents or who may have information in relation to these thefts should contact police in Staple Hill on 0845 456 7000.

"Police would urge motorists to be extra vigilant following these reports."

To keep your car safe:

* Always lock up and set the alarm or immobiliser if you have one

* Park in a garage if you can, and if not find a well-lit, busy area

* Clear out your car – if you leave anything on view a thief could break in to see what else is there

* Mark your audio equipment with your post code and keep a record of the serial number – it deters thieves because it helps police identify property as stolen

* Remember your keys are worth as much as your car. Put them safely out of sight

* Register your valuables on www.immobilise.com – it's free, secure and regularly checked by police across the country
