TODAY the Gazette is a member of an international family of newspapers - part of the Wales and Western region of Newsquest Media Group, in turn part of the US company Gannett, which owns newspapers, including USA Today, and television stations across America.

The Gazette has been an employer in Dursley since 1878 and has no plans to move away. In fact there are proposals to refurbish totally the Reliance House offices next year and improve working conditions for all the staff.

We took the opportunity this year to dispose of redundant buildings and land at the rear of Reliance House, which will now be redeveloped over the next two or three years in conjunction with the adjoining former Lister Petter site by new owner the South-West Regional Development Agency as part of the Dursley regeneration plan.

The Gazette is pleased to be associated with this major scheme, so vital for the future prosperity of Dursley, which this newspaper looks forward with optimism to continue to serve.

It will be another quarter of a century before Gazette has another major anniversary to celebrate, by which time Dursley - and elsewhere - will have changed so much. Until then we shall continue to record the life and times of all the communities we endeavour to champion.
