THE late arrival of singing superstar Aled Jones to a Berkeley concert at the weekend has led to a night of disappointment for some music lovers.

Gazette readers have also complained that they were made to wait in the car park long after the 6pm opening time at the Berkeley Castle concert on Saturday and that the stars gave disappointingly short performances.

Laurene Tubb, of Charfield, said: "I did not consider it very professional, courteous or polite to keep us all queuing in the car park area long after the designated opening time.

"I am sure that a great many of the ticket holders, like myself, had gone to a lot of trouble in order to be at the venue before the 6pm gates-opening time.

"Myleene and Aled were barely 20 minutes each and G4 did a little more at nearer 40 minutes.

"I just can't believe that they could think that this was enough time for any concert, let alone a concert of this size."

Another reader, from Thornbury, described how he and several friends were stunned when security men told them to "pack away their gear," soon after the end of the concert.

David McGarrick of Excite Management, organisers of the concert, admitted that Aled Jones had turned up late and this had delayed the sound check, which in turn delayed the opening of the gates.

Mr McGarrick pointed out that the length of the performances was something the individual artists were responsible for.

He said: "G4 played for 50 minutes but an hour would have been nice. "There was a jazz band playing from 7pm. Myleene Klass was also involved in collecting donations towards the Niger Relief Fund.

"There were approximately 5,000 people and the majority were happy with the event. Some were still there at midnight."

This was a view supported by resident Andy Ward.

He said: "It was an excellent evening of music and song with a superb atmosphere."
