The Ridings High School entered two students for the 14th Inter Schools Mini One-Day Event at Stonar School, near Chippenham, which took place on Sunday.

This prestigious event is attended by schools throughout the country, the majority of which are from the independent sector.

The two students, Leanne Stone and Francis Poole, performed brilliantly. Francis started with a low Dressage score of 31.72 and then went clear in Show Jumping. She was in fifth place at the start of Cross Country but unfortunately dropped to seventh because her time was too fast and she incurred penalty points. Leanne did a very nice Dressage, unfortunately had a fall in Show Jumping but did a very nice clear round in the Cross Country.

The school will be entering a full team at the next event being held at Stonar in September.

The team has been kindly sponsored by local business Patrick Pinker Saddlery based at Latteridge. The company supplied the numnahs and hat silks for the team which are in the school's colours. They also arranged for the Cross Country shirts to be embroidered with the school's rose. PE teacher, Ms L Leverton, who entered the students and attended the event said, "I was really proud of the girls who competed - they looked very professional and I am sure that the team we enter in September will do well. It's brilliant to see equitation being part of our sports programme."
