ENTRIES are still needed for the Cancer Research UK 10 run at the Badminton Estate.

The Badminton Estate is one of 23 of the country's noblest homes that are opening their gates for Cancer Research races.

So far, women outnumber men by around three to one in entries received for the event, which takes place on Sunday, September 4.

Organisers have been surprised to find that 70 percent of the 345 entries are from women.

Esther Hartas, Cancer Research UK 10 event organiser, said: "One of the reasons for developing the 10k series was in response to the feedback from men who wanted to run for the charity but were unable to take part in the popular women-only Race for Life event or did not feel ready to take on a half or full marathon."

Runners will start off on the 10 km multi-terrain route at 11am and will take in breathtaking views of the parkland, lake and magnificent Badminton House.

This is the second year the Badminton Estate has hosted the Cancer Research UK 10.

More than 550 participants helped raise £23,052 in the 2004 event.

This year, 1,000 runners are expected to take part, raising an estimated £55,000 for the charity.

The events are open to women and men over the age of 15.

Cancer Research UK is hoping that across the country a total of 31,800 runners will take part to help reach this year's fundraising total of £2.5 million.

Entry to all Cancer Research UK 10 runs is via the website only on www.cancerresearchuk.org/10k.

It costs £17.50 to take part and all entrants receive a specially designed Cancer Research UK 10 t-shirt to run in, plus a medal when they finish the course.
