A YOUNG swimmer from Thornbury Swimming Club has picked up an award for second place in his age group in the Cheestrings National Age Group Swimming Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.
Grant Sage won the British Age Group Category silver award by scoring the second highest points total in the Boys' 13 Years category.
One of his best performances came in the 400m individual medley where he was runner-up, taking the silver medal.
The Cheestrings Championships is the premier youth swimming event in Britain and many of the young competitors will already be aiming for the ultimate prize of being selected for the British Olympic team 2012.
The finals, attended by former Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies MBE, saw the UK's best juniors swim for individual medals, club titles and BAGCAT trophies - gold, silver and bronze awards being given to the highest points scorers in each age group.
