While talking to an Australian visitor about the delights of our town I was surprised to hear his host, a long-time resident of Thornbury, say that he had never used the Streamside Walks or visited the site of Thornbury's medieval fishponds.
The beneficial effects of moderate exercise are becoming well known so can I commend a gentle walk of just over two miles around the town which takes in the features mentioned above, plus a great many other points of interest.
The route is one of the 20 Easy Access circular trails published by South Glos. Council and drawn up by Thornbury Town Council supported by Alan Burberry of the Avon Wildlife Trust and Paul Wildgoose of Thornbury Heritage Trust. The trail starts and finishes at the Town Pump. A beautifully produced free booklet, Easy Access Trails Part Two, available from the Town Hall, gives the exact directions and highlights the features of interest along the way.
The booklet, and its companion Part One, give detailed directions around a further 19 parish walks in the area which are full of interest and provide a very pleasant excuse to take some gentle exercise.
