BUDDING teachers, scientists and dentists were set on the paths to their future careers after A-level results at Chipping Sodbury School.

Natalie Freestone, 18, of Chipping Sodbury, hopes to become a maths teacher and said she was "ridiculously happy" with her A* in maths, B in physics and Cs in literature and history.

"I am so happy, I was really nervous about the results and couldn’t sleep all night because I was thinking about them," said Natalie. "But this is better than I was expecting."

Sam King, 17, from Yate, is going to study dentistry at Bristol University after gaining As in maths and biology and a B in chemistry.

He said: "I am over the moon. I was fearing the worst and hoping for the best and it was a very good surprise."

Meanwhile Nicola Brown, 18, of Yate, is hoping to find cures for diseases in the future and will be studying for a degree in biology at Warwick University. She got As in biology and geography, a B in English and C in maths.

"I’m so happy, I just cannot believe it," she said. "I hope to specialise in microbiology and maybe work in labs on finding cures."

Head teacher Philip Lidstone said he was delighted with the school’s results, in which the pass rate for A-E grades was 96 per cent.

He said: "These are a strong set of A-level results which will allow many of our students to pursue their chosen paths in higher education."
