A LANDLORD is appealing to the public for information after three robbers burst into his pub in broad daylight, assaulted a member of staff and left with cash.

Owner of The Dinnywicks pub in Kingswood, Chris Jelly, said he was left shocked and unnerved after the incident, which took place at around 2pm on Monday, August 22 in the centre of the quiet village.

Mr Jelly had popped out for lunch and returned after a tearful phone call from barman Andy Sherwin saying the pub had been raided.

The 27-year-old staff member suffered cuts to the head, from what is believed to have been a blow to the head with a glass bottle, and was treated at Berkeley Hospital.

"I had a phone call from Andy, who was quite tearful and shaky, to say he had been attacked," said Mr Jelly, who took over as landlord in April this year.

"Three men had turned up and told Andy to stay still and he wouldn’t get hurt, which he did at first but then he did get hit on the head and fell over. He was a bit shaken, but he is ok now."

It is believed one of the men went upstairs to look for money, while the other two tried to break into the fruit machine.

They got away with around £600 to £800 from the previous day’s takings.

Police surrounded the pub and spent the afternoon making door-to-door inquiries and looking for evidence. However, as yet, no witnesses have come forward.

The offenders were described as stocky build, two tall and one shorter and one had a scar on his face.

Mr Jelly managed to get the pub re-opened by 7pm the same night after clearing smashed glass.

"It was lovely the support I received from the village. People popped in to check I was ok, which was really nice.

"I felt quite vulnerable that night, you wonder ‘Are they going to come back again?’ It is quite unnerving. But it hasn’t put me off being here, it is still a great place to run a pub," he added.

Mr Jelly has since had CCTV installed to the pub.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Gloucestershire Police on 0845 090 1234 quoting incident number 266 of August 22 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
