STUDENTS in Dursley were jumping for joy after receiving their GCSE results.

Head teacher of Rednock School David Alexander said he was extremely pleased with their results this year, which were nine per up on last year.

Overall 78 per cent of pupils gained five GCSEs grades A*-C.

"I am really pleased, we had an excellent year group and they have all done very well indeed," said Mr Alexander. "Lots of students have signed up to our sixth-form which is really pleasing to see."

Ashleigh Heeps, 16, from Berkeley, was pleased when she received eight A* grades and one A. Henry Knight, 16, said he did "a lot better than expected" when he found out he got six A* grades and three As. His friend James Abis was also celebrating achieving seven A grades and two Bs.
