TYTHERINGTON Rocks won their last away game of the season in a close confrontation against lowly Trowbridge, writes John Crooks.

And Rocks captain Andy Criddle scored the club’s 100th league goal of the season, before being dismissed seven minutes later.

However, ten-man Tytherington came back to beat Trowbridge in terrible conditions.

The champions had a shock when Trowbridge’s Stephen Toogood headed home a wind-assisted corner from Neil Grant in the 40th minute but right on half-time, Alex Chapman, who scored four in the rout against Trowbridge earlier in the season, picked up a subtle pass from Jack Smyth, to find the far corner from 12 yards.

One minute into the second half Criddle headed home a driven corner from Joe White.

Seven minutes later there was a skirmish in the Trowbridge area and after talking to his linesman, who had his flag raised, the referee gave Criddle the red card.

Tytherington had to re-organise and put Smyth and White in front of the back four with Stuart Nelson next to Tony Emery in the middle and reserve Craig Stewart coming on at right back.

But Trowbridge got the equaliser in the 71st minute when a snap shot from Ian Groves went into the bottom corner.

Rocks boss Gary Powell brought on Justin Bishop and another reserve, Luke Larcass.

With alert work down the right, Bishop managed to create the chance for Chapman to get the winner from close range nine minutes from time.

Man of the match Chapman said: “That was difficult against a team who have been bottom most of the season.

“Our team spirit, even when we down to ten men, was enough to win. And it was great for me to get back on the goal trail.”

On Saturday, April 21 the Rocks are at home against Cirencester Development, where they will be presented with the league trophy.
