RENISHAW has reported record end of year financial results with claims the company still has room to grow.

The Wotton-based engineering firm announced this week group profit before tax stood at £86 million, a seven per cent increase on last year’s £80.4 million.

Total group revenue for the year was £331.9 million, 15 per cent up on the £288.7 million for last year.

In a statement Sir David McMurtry, chief executive at Renishaw, which specialises in industrial measuring devices, said earnings per share for the year were 95.6p.

Mr McMurtry said: “I am pleased to announce a record set of group results in terms of both revenue and profit for the year ended 30th June 2012; a year of further progress and growth.

“Although the world economic outlook is uncertain, the board remains optimistic regarding the group’s own future and prospects and expects that 2013 will be another year of progress for Renishaw.”

The company said globally it employed 2,904 people, an increase of 229 during the last 12 months, however, it reported it still had 182 staff vacancies in the group, 118 of which are in the UK.

Despite the healthy profit increase Renishaw has invested heavily in facilities, machinery, research and development during the year.

In the past year it has bought new premises in South Wales, and gained planning consent for facilities at its headquarters at New Mills, as well as in Charfield and Dublin. It has also built new premises in York and Slovenia.

The company has expanded its global presence too establishing and expanding subsidiary companies in Mexico, Canada, Germany, Brazil, China and Spain.

Earlier this year Renishaw was presented with its 15th Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the innovations category.
