FOODIES are being invited to indulge in all things edible this weekend as Cam celebrates British Food Fortnight.

It will be hosting its first-ever British Food Fair on Sunday, August 12, when shoppers can try delicious treats, enter competitions and learn about growing your own.

The fair is being organised by Cam Parish Council and Berry Blue Café to coincide with British Food Fortnight and National Allotment week.

The community event, which will be held at the newly created town centre on Noel Lee Way, will focus on promoting British, locally sourced produce, and growing-your-own fruit and vegetables.

On Sunday (10am-3pm) a range of stall holders will be in front of the new Cam Parish Council offices and the Berry Blue Café selling and showcasing things grown or produced locally, such as preserves, fruit juice and meat.

Confirmed stalls include Clayton House meats from Berkeley, Old Issacs hand-made preserves from Stroud, Honey Bee Products from Stonehouse, and Dean Rise Fruit Farm from the Forest of Dean.

John Fowles, chairman of Cam Parish Council, said: "This is the first community event we have held in this new space in Cam and we are really excited to be working with other local businesses on this event.

"We always wanted the building and outside space to become a focal point for the local community and we hope this event will be one of many."

In conjunction with the event Berry Blue is running a Signature Dish competition, in which local people are being invited to enter their signature recipe, which must use some British, seasonal ingredients.

The winner will get their dish put on the specials menu in the Cam-based café and will also win dinner at the café.

Louise Brown, owner of Berry Blue, said: "Using locally-sourced British produce is important to us as a business and we hope this event will promote the fantastic produce this country has to offer and the amazing small, local producers that create and sell it."

Entries for the Signature Dish competition can be dropped off in the café or emailed to claire@berry-blue.co.uk
