AFTER a tense wait and a few sleepless nights, pupils from Rednock School in Dursley finally received their much-anticipated GCSE results on Thursday.

Many of the students arrived early with their friends and family, eager to find out whether the months of hard work had paid off.

For 16-year-old twins Hugh and Gareth Jones, it was worth the wait. Gareth said: "I was a bit nervous this morning, but I’m very happy with my results. I got five A*s in total – three in science, one in history and one in maths. I’m just trying to let the news sink in."

Hugh said both twins were hoping to complete the same AS Levels at the school next year. He added: "We both love science and we’re interested in going into engineering later on, so we’re planning to study maths, further maths, chemistry and physics."

The overall pass rate for the school was 99.6 per cent, with 100 per cent of students passing maths.

Headteacher David Alexander said the school had had some excellent results this year. "There were 15A*s in maths and 11A*s in history and we’re very proud of all those students who achieve the top grades."

He added: " It’s lovely to see so many A*s, but from our perspective, the most important thing is that all our students achieve five A* to G grades and we’re just as proud of those who worked hard to gain Es and Fs, because that’s a huge achievement."

Mr Alexander said he expected 60 per cent of students to stay on at Rednock to complete their AS and A Levels next year.

"Last year, all of our students went into employment, education or training," he said, "and we hope to replicate that this year."
