WOTTON guides cycled from Bristol to Bath to raise funds for their guiding finale.

A group of girls from the 2nd Wotton Guides cycled the challenging 24-mile route on Monday, April 7 to prepare for the completion of their Baden-Powell Challenge Award.

This is the highest award a guide can achieve and ends with a special residential adventure which the team have been raising money for.

Thirteen-year-old Rachael Smith joined Alix Robinson, Ella York and Laura Copeland , all 14, on the practice cycle from Fishponds to Bath.

Group leader Sarah Cocker said they had all been working really hard to finish all the requirements of their awards since September, organising club meetins including a Diwali evening and a Zumba fitness event.

She said: “The trip to Bath was a great chance for the girls to challenge themselves, whilst raising money to complete the final adventure weekend.

“Adventures like this are just part of the range of activities open to girls and young women through Girlguiding, which gives them their own space to grow in confidence, raise their aspirations and have fun.”

Their trip will take place at the county’s Girlguiding headquarters in Cowley at the end of the month, with a day trip to Bath to experience disaster management with the Red Cross.

Ms Cocker added: “We are very proud of all their hard work. Their determination shone through on the bike ride as the last few miles were a bit of a struggle, especially during a particularly heavy downpour. They all still had smiles on their faces.”
