AN EVENT showcasing everything vintage and on wheels has rolled into North Nibley and proven to be a massive success after a three year hiatus.

The Lister Tyndale Steam Rally was last held in 2011 after heavy rain made the event impossible to run the following year, with organisers pulling the plug indefinitely.

However a renewed effort to stage it at Nibley House has seen the crowds return to view hundreds of classical vehicles.

From pushbikes to motorcycles and from steam engines to vintage caravans, even the most discerning vintage enthusiast was spoilt for choice.

Over the two day event, starting on Saturday, July 12, around 80 vintage tractors and over 150 vintage cars were believed to have made the journey.

As well as the range of nostalgic vehicles, there was a beer tent, food stalls and fun fair rides for the children.

Rally co-ordinator Clive Wychard told the Gazette he believed several thousand people had turned up and said it had been a “wonderful success”.

“We thought we would try another one and see what the reaction would be and it was fabulous,” he said.

“It was a great event and we’re very pleased with it and we are hopeful we can run it next season.

“We did not do a massive show, we scaled it down and it worked.”

For Mr Wychard, 73, who lives in the village, it was something he was keen to try to find out if there was still a call for the event in the area.

“We have come out of retirement for it,” he said.

“There’s only a couple left from the original team from 20-odd years ago including a couple of volunteers.

“We’re just a family show, if it works and we have enough money to stage another one we’re ok.”
