A CARE provider is hosting a free event to help the elderly make the most of their later years.

The event, hosted by Bluebird Care and to be held at Emersons Green, will be an opportunity for older people in the community to find out what services are available to them.

Stalls and displays from a range of organisations that support older people will be on offer throughout the morning to ensure residents can make the most out of their later years.

Managing director Sophie Rowland-Jones said: “The over 65 year olds play an important part in our society. Not only have they contributed in previous years to the development of civic life, but they also add greatly to the economy, and give hundreds of hours of voluntary time to community groups.

“We rely heavily on older people for all they do, not to mention the support they give by helping out with grandchildren.”

The two-and-a-half hour event will include stalls from Contact the Elderly, Age UK, Singing for the Brain, Remap, Care Planning Services, Well Aware, and Wessex Financial Solutions.

Those attending will be treated to tea, coffee and cake, as well as free food samples from Wiltshire Farm Foods.

Director of Bluebird Care in South Gloucestershire Jack Whitfield said: “Too often, the older members of our society feel isolated with no one to talk to. Part of the job our care workers do includes spending time with people, keeping them company, and giving them a helping hand around the house.

“Our free event will give older people a chance to meet others in similar situations and make new friends. Also they will be able to discover the array of organisations we have in the area that are there to help.”

The event will be held at Emersons Green Village Hall, Emerson Way, Emersons Green, on September 4 from 10am to 12.30pm.
