SERVICES provided by pharmacies in Gloucestershire are being reviewed and the public is being asked for its views.

The consultation forms part of a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) being carried out in the county, which will aim to ensure pharmacies are meeting the needs of local people.

It considers the demographic of Gloucestershire’s population and local health priorities as well as how community pharmacies can contribute to improving healthcare for people across the county.

The draft PNA concludes that current services are able to meet the needs of Gloucestershire’s current population but there may be scope for improvements in the future.

Although Gloucestershire County Council is not responsible for pharmacies in the county, it has a duty to develop the PNA as part of its public health remit.

The completed PNA will be used by NHS England to support commissioning of pharmacy services.

Cabinet member for public health, Cllr Dorcas Binns, said: “We are asking local people to tell us how they currently use pharmacies and what their experiences are.

“We want it to be as easy as possible for people to access help and advice about their health. It’s important everyone gets the support they need to make small changes to improve their lives for the long term and that the right resources are available in the right places.

“These views are extremely valuable and we would urge people to take the time to complete the survey.”

The consultation is open until Monday, September 29.
