AFTER a long and nerve-wracking wait, students, parents and teachers celebrated another year of outstanding exam results.

Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School, in Wotton-under-Edge, released its GCSE results to year 11 pupils on Thursday (22).

Head teacher Andrew Harris described the results as “excellent” and said they were a reflection of the hard work of students and teachers.

71 per cent of students at the school received five or more GCSEs with results of A* to C. 35 per cent of the students received grades of A or A*.

Mr Harris said: “Our results this year have been excellent and we’re all very pleased, but they are in line with our expectations at Katharine Lady Berkeley.

“These good results reflect the hard work of our students and staff. It’s a great starting point for those that are going to continue into sixth form or college.”

Though Mr Harris was already aware of the positive news, it was not until 9.30pm that students themselves were able to collect their results.

Parents looked on anxiously as the youngsters returned from the collection point and gathered to open their envelopes.

One student that was particularly happy was Millie Smith, 16, of Yate, who received six As.

She said: “I’m really pleased with my results because I really wasn’t expecting to do as well. I’m happy to have gotten six As.”

Fellow student James Tomlinson, 16, of Wickwar, was equally delighted with his results, earning himself four A stars.

He said: “I’m thrilled to have gotten these results. Now I’ve got everything I need to continue on into the sixth form.”

Many of the students were already making plans to attend the sixth form at the school, or go on to college elsewhere.

Overall, Katharine Lady Berkeley reflected the positivity of the rest of the country, with most students happy with their results.
