A CARAVAN unhitched from a car and careered through a fence over the weekend – only narrowly avoiding a serious collision.

Jono Smallridge, 20, of Cam Pitch, was in his garden when he heard a loud bang on Sunday, September 7, at 5.20pm.

A caravan which had detached from a Landrover Freelander drifted across the road and pavement, only coming to a stop after breaking through a metal fence by the side of the road.

Mr Smallridge said: “I live right next to the road and was at home in the garden when I heard a loud smash.

“I thought there’d been a crash and I’d heard the airbags go off until I went out and had a look. The caravan had careered across the road and went through a fence.

“It nearly hit a small car travelling in the other direction when it moved out in front of incoming traffic.”

Nobody was injured in the accident and the RAC were called by the driver to recover the caravan, which was successfully removed later in the evening.
