Gloucestershire Police are reminding motorists that the A417 will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday September 10) when the Tour of Britain cycle race comes through.

As part of the route, cyclists will go up Leckhampton Hill and across the Air Balloon roundabout and along the A417, turning right into Birdlip.

In order to prevent vehicles, in particular HGVs, becoming stranded on the hill, Crickley Hill will be closed to uphill traffic for approximately 20 minutes before the peloton arrives. Downhill traffic will be stopped for a shorter length of time as the peloton passes through.

The uphill closure will be in place from the snow gates just past the A46/ Shurdington Road junction and will be enforced by police.

Although timings are not precise, and weather dependant, they are expected to be between 13.15 – 13. 45 pm.

People should avoid this area over this period.

The Highways Agency already have warning signs on the A417 Crickley Hill and on the M4.
