THE fire service was called to a car fire on the motorway yesterday afternoon (September, 25).

At 2.32pm, on Thursday, the fire service was called to a car on fire on the southbound carriageway of the M5 motorway between junctions 12 and 13.

One engine attended from Gloucester South Fire Station on the southbound carriageway with a crew of five and one from Stroud Fire Station on the northbound carriageway with a crew of five.

The car, which was located on the hard shoulder of the motorway, was slightly damaged in the fire. Firefighters used one hosereel to deal with the incident and were detained for approximately one hour.

The fire is thought to have been started due to an electrical fault in the vehicle.
