AN inquest was held last week into the death of a man found dead in Stratford Park, Stroud in the summer.

The body of Polish national Andrzej Wilcznnski, 54, was found beneath a tree from which a length of frayed rope was hanging on June 24.

Last Tuesday’s hearing at Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court was told that Mr Wilcznnski had already made a suicide bid while living in Poland before he moved to Stroud.

He had been living in his son’s caravan off Slad Road, Stroud.

In a written statement, his son Slawek Wilcznnsk, of Springbank Road, Cheltenham, said: “I helped my father with money but he used to have dark thoughts and used to drink too much.

“Back in Poland he tried to kill himself once.”

The body was found by a couple walking in the park.

A pathologist could not confirm whether Mr Wilcznnski had died as a result of hanging.

Coroner Katy Skerrett said: “It is possible that this man hanged himself and the rope snapped but we cannot be sure. He suffered anxiety and dark thoughts, as his son put it, and made a previous suicide attempt, but nevertheless I record an open conclusion in this case.”
