A GROUP of children from Kingswood have performed their own version of Queen’s We Will Rock You as a message of protest to developers.

The Keep Kingswood a Village group is objecting proposals for a new Crest Nicholson housing development of 57 houses near the new Chestnut Park, in Kingswood.

Now a whole new generation has joined the debate with a rock band with a difference. Their youngest member, Georgia Hinks, is just four-years-old.

Hilary Hinks, 39, and Dan Pacini, 46, live together in Kingswood with their four children.

Mr Pacini’s two children are Dan Pacini Jr, 12, and Natalie Pacini, nine. Miss Hinks’ children are Freddy Hinks, seven, and Georgia Hinks, four.

The family have only been living together for six months, but the four children have got on like a house on fire, even forming a band to help out with their village’s campaign to retain its village status.

They made a video recording of their own version of the popular Queen song We Will Rock You, with all-new lyrics relating to the campaign.

Miss Hinks is incredibly proud of their achievement, and happy to see them getting along so well.

She said: “It was initially done off of their own backs, and we knew nothing about it.

“They made a Take That video of Shine a while ago and then decided amongst themselves to do the latest one about the village.

“We haven’t all been living together long but they’re very close and to see them all knowing one another so well is really nice.”

Despite their age, the children, with the exception of Georgia, do have some understanding of the battle between Keep Kingswood a Village and Crest Nicholson.

Their efforts have received a warm response from the community.

“The response has been really positive,” said Miss Hinks. “I’ve been seeing them getting a lot of feedback when we’re out on the school run from parents and teachers.”

The video of the children performing can be viewed on the KKAV Facebook page. Visit facebook.com and search Keep Kingswood a Village.

They have applied for outline planning permission for the houses and a new access road. The results of the application will be decided by Stroud District Council in a few weeks time.

The Keep Kingswood a Village organisation formed to fight against a proposed Taylor Wimpey development at Chestnut Park in 2011. The development was given the go-ahead in November that year.
