AN OVERHAUL of bus routes by First West of England will see a number of alterations made to local bus services and also the introduction of a new route from Kingswood to Thornbury.

As part of the changes, which will be implemented from Sunday, November 2, four of the company’s existing routes will be renumbered.

Among the places that will be affected by the changes are: Almondsbury, Berkeley, Charfield, Chipping Sodbury, Dursley, Sharpness, Thornbury, Wickwar, Wotton-under-Edge and Yate.

Simon Ford, commercial manager, First West of England, said: “The changes being made in November fall into three categories: changes being made in response to local requests, alterations designed to improve the punctuality and reliability of services, and changes designed to expand the network while simplifying the numbering system.

“Following requests from customers people will find there are, for instance, additional late night journeys on some routes and some route changes.

“The changes to the numbering of some routes are designed to help people as once implemented more buses travelling in similar direction will have concurrent numbers, ie 70, 71, 72, 73, 75, 76, 78 and 79 will all travel towards Gloucester Road from the city centre.

“The new route from Kingswood to Thornbury is also expected to be welcomed as we create new direct connections for local people to use.

“Notably this particular change will provide a link between Kingswood, UWE (Frenchay Campus) and Thornbury, while also offering a new daytime link between Brook Way in Bradley Stoke and Bristol Parkway Station, covering the section of route not currently served by Service 73.”

The new Service 83 will operate between Kingswood and Thornbury, stopping at Almondsbury among others. The buses will run hourly on Monday to Saturday daytimes.

New timetables for the affected services will be available to download from the website (under Journey Planning / Timetable Booklets) in the coming days. Hard copy timetables should be available from the travel shop from 31 October.
