CAM Everlands School celebrated Fabulous Food Week – a week of learning about where food comes from and the healthy meals that can be made with simple ingredients.

Children at the school had the opportunity to set up their very own food market on Friday, October 24, selling cakes and smoothies they made themselves during the day.

All money raised went to The School Fund, which supports disadvantaged families, and the local food bank.

Llahnie Mae, 9, was on a stall selling orange-based smoothies she had made with her classmates.

She said: “We made these all together. It was fun, and the smoothies taste really nice.”

Nina Broderick, mum to a year five pupil in the school, thought the event was a good opportunity for the children.

She said: “I think it’s lovely. It’s been nice to see how they’ve got on.

“It’s good because it teaches them to be more independent and to see them raising money for the school is really great.

“It’s also good that they’re putting money into the community by raising funds for the local food bank as well.”

In a recent local authority review, the school was recognised as making rapid improvement since the Ofsted inspection that said they "required improvement" in January.

The school has recently been awarded the Gold Award for Sporting Games. This is an achievement that recognises the excellence of their sporting development across a wide range of sports, which include orienteering, cross country running, football, archery, cricket, netball, gymnastics and zumba.

New headteacher Craig Jones said: “The team and I are proud of the achievements and progress in recent months and continue to be hugely optimistic about the education being offered for children in the area.”

If your child is due to start school next year, there is an opportunity to visit the school on Friday, November 21, at 9am. This open morning will involve a chance to meet the head teacher, speak to children, tour the school and ask further questions.
