A CAM man successfully walked 312-miles through Spain to raise money for charity in the memory of his late wife.

Chris Farquharson, of Elm Lodge, Cam, completed the Camino de Santiago route in Northern Spain to raise money for Pancreatic Research UK.

Now he has plans to raffle off a Dyson Ball vacuum cleaner, donated by Dyson, to add to his fundraising total.

Mr Farquharson said: “I completed my 312 mile solo trek across Northern Spain on time and without major problem.

“I got soaked a few times, picked up a couple of blisters and had three falls on the steep bits but nothing serious.

“It occurred to me that I’d walked the equivalent of walking into Gloucester every day for three and a half weeks but with mountains in-between once reaching 5000 feet.

“People have been incredibly generous with sponsorship and it now remains for me to raffle the vacuum cleaner."

Mr Farquharson raised about £1,500 for the walk, and hopes to add to his final total at the church fayre.

The Advent Fayre will take place at St George’s Church, in Upper Cam, on Saturday, November 29, between 1 and 3pm.
