VOLUNTEERS are needed across South Gloucestershire to hold collections for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Collections are being held in Yate, Thornbury, Emersons Green, Kingswood, Cribbs Causeway and in areas across Bristol.

The charity is encouraging people to help by signing up to collect for one or two hours between 9am and 5pm on scheduled days.

Community fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care, Lucy Stockall, said: “People could collect for an hour or two, perhaps during a day of Christmas shopping.

“We do these every year and people have already shown an interest in the collections, and some have booked online already. Anyone over 16 can help while wearing our yellow Christmas hats.

“It’s a nice, positive thing to do. In the average two hours, collectors usually collect around £60. That pays for three hours of nursing care, so it’s really important.”

Marie Curie Cancer Care helps people and their families living with a terminal illness by offering expert care, emotional support, research and guidance.

The charity has nearly 2,000 nurses in the UK and last year worked for 1.32 million hours caring for terminally ill patients.

Mrs Stockall said: “It’s a great way to help, if people can’t give money themselves, they can help collect instead. We really want more people to volunteer and we hope people feel charitable as it’s so close to Christmas."
