A FAMILY celebrated the life of a young farmer who was killed in a crash last year with a tractor run in his memory - and raised £900 for victims of road crashes.

A tractor run in memory of Harry Copperthwaite Smith was held on Sunday, November 16, to coincide with the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

Mr Smith, of Lower Wick, was 17 years old when he was killed in an accident on roads between Woodford and North Nibley on November 13, 2013.

Tractors rolled in from 9am and continued to do so right until after 10am.

The group were fortunate to be met with overcast but dry weather – particularly as many of the tractors didn’t have cabs.

When they arrived at the Hunters Hall they found time to count all of the tractors in attendance, of which there were 54, more than double the amount of last year’s event.

Mr Smith’s mother Kerry Copperthwaite said: “There was a lot of fun to be had. The roads were interesting in places and we went to areas most people didn't know existed – but the edges were tinged with sadness for obvious reasons.

“The best part was driving up Wotton High Street where many hung out of flat and shop windows waving as we went through.

“We've had such positive feedback that there will be more next year.”

The event raised £900, which will go to RoadPeace, a national charity for road crash victims.

Mrs Copperthwaite continued: “We want to say many thanks to all who came to honour Harry and donate so generously.

“A special thanks to close friends and family, the Land Rover Forum and all who put time, energy and love into making it such a brilliant day.”
