THE Christmas lights in Cam are to be turned on by a very special celebrity guest – after hours of festive entertainment are enjoyed in the town.

A Christmas event in Cam will conclude when Olaf, the snowman from the popular Disney film Frozen, switches the town’s lights outside the Berkeley Arms at 4.30pm on Saturday, November 29.

The event, organised between Hopton School House and Cam Parish Council, will begin in the Memorial Hall with a Christmas fair, which will include craft stalls, cakes and refreshments.

The idea for a Christmas event was raised in conversations between Hopton School House and the council.

The council were delighted by the idea and decided to change the date of the town’s light switch on to coincide with the fair.

The two groups subsequently arranged for a number of stalls and exciting activities to take place on the day, both inside and outside of the Memorial Hall.

Business manager for Hopton School House Caroline Grant said: “This is the first year of a big Christmas Event happening in Cam, organised by the people of Cam for the people of Cam.”

Inside the hall there will be more than 20 stalls, as well as the chance for children to meet Father Christmas in Santa’s grotto.

On top of this, refreshments will be available and professional photographs for snaps of individuals or families in the festive season.

Outside of the hall visitors will see reindeers decorated by local schools and children in every shop window.

Punch and Judy will be seen in the parish council foyer, as well as a range of entertainment and more stalls.

The Berkeley Arms will be offering mulled cider, music and snow.

A firework display will be seen as Olaf switches on the town’s lights at 4.30pm.
