A 16 DAY campaign has been launched to raise awareness of domestic abuse and sexual violence across Gloucestershire.

The ‘16 Days of Action’ campaign was launched on Tuesday, November 25 bringing together groups to promote healthy relationships and raise awareness of relationship issues.

Gloucestershire Domestic Abuse Support Service (GDASS) is supporting the campaign and hosting pop up events throughout the county over the next 16 days.

The support services manager at GDASS Sally Morrissey said: “This campaign is vital to help people understand and recognise the various forms of abuse, encourage them to take action, and inform them about the services that are available in the county that can help.

“Our team will be venturing out across the county to run a whole host of pop-up events and awareness stands to raise awareness of the service GDASS provides to help people affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence."

GDASS works with victims with funding from Gloucestershire County Council to support them to remain safely in their own homes to avoid disruption to them and their children.

The team supports them to maintain long-term independence, safety and wellbeing by ensuring victims build on their existing strengths and skills and develop new ones.

The campaign coincides with national days ‘Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls International Day’ on Tuesday, November 25 and ‘Human Rights Day’ on Wednesday, December 10.
