STUDENTS have worked with a designer to create a new sign for Kingswood Primary School.

Students from Katharine Lady Berkeley’s (KLB) School have collaborated with designer John Pinch to create a unique sign for the primary school on Abbey Street.

Mr Pinch worked with the A level Photography group from KLB to take individual photographs of all the pupils in the school striking a different pose to describe a range of activities including dance, sport and music.

The images were then simplified into a silhouette and scaled to half full size.

Mr Pinch said: “I wanted these graphic images to illustrate the happy and positive side of school where pupils enjoy themselves.”

The designer has worked with students at KLB on various projects before and is the grandfather to one of the pupils at Kingswood Primary School.

Pupils from year five and year six helped Mr Pinch to mount some of the profiles three-deep on the front wall of the school, having been cut out of exterior plywood and painted in a variety of colours.

Year three and year four pupils then helped to attach the remaining silhouettes to the boundary fence in the playground.

Acting headteacher, Caroline Musty, said: “Our new sign is a magnificent piece of art work. It captures the essence of the school and the breadth of activities that we offer. Every child has been captured in this piece of work and John provided a wonderful opportunity for our junior pupils to make a contribution to the final composition.

“Our grateful thanks to Renishaw, Kingswood Village Association and Kingswood School Association for supporting this project.”
