A CAM Community Centre is to hold a New Year open event to help people achieve their goals in 2015.

GL11 Community Hub will hold the event on Friday, January 23, and could help you find an enriching group to join or get a qualification you have always wanted to achieve.

The event will consist of taster sessions and information from representatives of a range of groups groups, a launch of the GL11 Café (including baby café) and general fun and games.

One of the taster sessions available on the day is Trash to Treasure, which emphasises the notion of utilising ‘rubbish’ in a useful way.

GL11’s marketing and training coordinator Steph Williams has been getting into the spirit, hand painting an old sign to advertise the event instead of purchasing yet another advertising banner which will then become a useless waste.

Taster sessions for this will be running from 5 to 7pm on the day, with the hope of running a full course in the near future.

Parents and children are encouraged to come along between 3.30 and 5pm to explore the premises and see what they have to offer.

Messy taster sessions, games and treats will be laid out throughout the afternoon. The launch of the children’s café will also take place offering sample menus for families to try with their youngsters.

Then, from 5 to 7pm the focus will be shifted to the older generations of Cam and Dursley, including taster sessions on yoga from teacher Amy West from Birdwings Yoga, and dance from Helen Gee from Diamond Dance.

A session of songs will also be provided by their very own choir, GL11 Voices.

Craft activities, IT demonstrations and more will also be on offer throughout the day.

Most social groups will be on hand for a chat to help you find something that interests you. These include sewing, book club, knitting, hard of hearing groups.
