AN AWARD-WINNING pub near Berkeley raised hundreds for a local school with their unwanted Christmas gift auction.

Pete and Claire Tiley, who run the Salutation Inn, in Ham, came up with the idea to raise funds for Berkeley Primary School.

Customers from Berkeley and beyond flocked to the pub on Saturday, January 10, bringing along their unwanted gifts which ranged from toiletry sets to books to shirts on the wrong side of fashion.

Auctioneer Darren Hawkins led proceedings, seeing regulars and new customers join in the fun, energised by the ‘leftover turkey’, bubble and squeak, and pickles that was on offer.

The event ended up raising £275 for the school.

Headteacher at Berkeley Primary School Debbie Marklove said: “A huge thank you to Pete and Claire, their staff and customers for their continued support of the school.

“It is truly heart warming to see such amazing community spirit and money raised at events such as this really does make a difference.

“We would like to wish all at The Salutation the very best of luck in the upcoming Countryfile Rural Pub of the Year Awards and every success for the future”.
