SOUTH Gloucestershire and Stroud College students will be given the opportunity to join the National Youth Theatre when auditions take place at the school.

The college and theatre announced their partnership as a day of auditions will be held at the college in February with more dates to be revealed throughout the year.

The partnership means young people from the area, aged 14 and 15, will be given a chance to audition to join the National Youth Theatre (NYT).

The audition day will take place on Saturday, February 28 where participants will be offered a morning workshop and then an afternoon of call back auditions for successful applicants.

Maddie Wray-Reynolds, L3 Performing and Production Arts student, said: “I am so looking forward to the NYT visiting us at South Gloucestershire and Stroud (SGS) College.

"I plan to audition for them next year, this will give me a sneak preview.

“Our teacher was part of the NYT for six years and knows the artistic director well. She also has good connections in the industry which allows more opportunities that we may not have.”

The youth theatre was established in 1956 as the first youth theatre in the world and over the years has nurtured the talent of hundreds of thousands of young people.

It is now a world-leading youth arts organisation which aims to inspire, train and showcase its performers and theatre technicians.

SGS College has been running Perfuming Arts at the Stroud Campus for over two years now, offering courses in both Levels 2 and 3.

The auditions will take place from 10am to 6pm at the Stroud campus on Stratford Road.

If you are interested in auditioning or interviewing for the NYT in Stroud as an actor, technical theatre operator, set-designer, costume designer you should apply directly to the National Youth Theatre website: www.nyt.org.uk.
