THE annual pancake race held in Dursley returned on Shrove Tuesday and saw runners flipping their way down the town’s main street.

The race, organised by Dursley Town Council, began at midday on Tuesday, February 17.

About 15 runners, many in fancy dress, came to compete, with scores present to watch the races.

Those taking part had to supply their own pancakes and frying pans, with ‘strict’ rules on the measurements given by Dursley Town Council.

The runners were told to flip their pancakes once before starting, followed by a further six flips throughout the course of the race.

After three heats whittled down the numbers to five one final race decided where the top three would stand on the podium.

Coming in at first place and earning a gold medal was Kai Perry-Smith. In a close second position and nabbing silver was Johnnie Marks. And finally, earning a respectful bronze medal was Dursley’s Gazette reporter Stuart Rust.

Mayor of Dursley Jane Ball presented all three with their medals.

Some of the more memorable costumes included a foot, a giraffe and a lion held on a lead.

Throughout the races members of the town council and volunteers were collecting money for the Vale Hospital League of Friends, amassing a total of £150.
