A RAFFLE to boost the pot of money raised by bucket-list fundraiser Cameron Hutchinson was a huge success.

Cameron, 23, of Cam, was diagnosed with terminal cancer and made it his dying wish to raise as much money as he could for Macmillan Cancer Support.

One of the latest in a string of fundraising events was a raffle at the Railway Inn in Cam which raised £1,500, pushing Cameron’s grand total beyond £6,500.

Cameron’s fundraising campaign began earlier this year, with its first major event being a trek from Newbrook Farm in Uley to Dursley, with those participating on horses and bikes, and Cameron himself on a quad.

After donations dwarfed the original target of £3,000 it was raised to £5,000. At the time of the march from Uley to Dursley that target had also been achieved.

After more than £1,500 was raised at the Saturday's raffle at the Railway and a bucket outside of Cam's Tesco, the overall money raised now stands at about £6,500 and the target is set to be raised again.

A huge range of prizes were on offer at the raffle, including membership to a pool, a jump from a glider, bottles of wine and more.

Cameron's mum Rebecca Noble said: "The raffle was brilliant - really good, and the atmosphere was absolutely excellent."

Cameron added his thanks to the Railway Inn for their support.

Landlady at the Railway Sharon Brimble was delighted with the event, calling Cameron an “inspiration”.

She said: “The event went very well and had a really good turnout, so we managed to sell a load of raffle tickets.

“The atmosphere was brilliant and Cameron was fantastic and really positive. He’s incredible and a real inspiration to people.

“There were some really amazing prizes – about 50 of them – so it did go on for some time."

Cameron was first diagnosed with melanoma on his back on July 4 last year in Cheltenham General Hospital.

After undergoing two lots of surgery he was given the news that the cancer had spread to his spine and organs.

It was after this that he made the decision to put his remaining time into helping others, raising funds for those in similar situations.

Cameron and his mum have a wide-range of future fundraising events in the pipeline, including a skydive. Check gazetteseries.co.uk for details as they arrive.
