A 20-YEAR-OLD man from Wickwar threw himself in front of a train after sending farewell texts to his daughter’s mother, an inquest heard.

Jake English died on October 29 last year after being hit by a train near to Keynsham Railway Station, just days after being released from prison.

Mr English, originally from Bristol, was unemployed and had a young daughter, an inquest at Flax Bourton Coroner’s Court heard on Tuesday.

Texts sent from Mr English to the mother of his daughter, shortly before he died were read out during the inquest.

The messages included: “You’re my girl, and always will be, no matter what”, “Look after my daughter, I love you” and the final text: “Bye, I’m walking to the station, I can’t do this anymore, don’t blame yourself”.

Mr English died just before 6am from multiple injuries and the inquest heard that there was no evidence to show he had taken or misused drugs.

In statement read out to the inquest, the mother said: “I saw Jake briefly on the day of the incident.

"He had been released from prison on the Friday, October 24 and had been looking to find accommodation.”

Avon and Somerset Police's PC Darren Pearson told the inquest: "There were no signs of any struggle in the area.”

Recording a conclusion of suicide, assistant coroner Myfanwy Buckeridge(CORR) said: “I have taken into account all that I have heard, including all of these text messages sent to the mother up to Mr English’s death.

“I am satisfied Mr English deliberately placed himself on the train line with the purpose of taking his own life.

“All that remains is to offer my condolences to his family and friends.”
