A MAN was left trapped in his van after a crash on the A38 in Berkeley – leaving fire crews forced to dismantle part of the van’s interior to drag him to safety.

A call was received by Gloucestershire Police at 12.37am this morning asking for assistance at a crash at Woodford in Berkeley.

Firefighters from Dursley attended the scene with support from the specialist rescue appliance from Stroud Fire Station.

When they reached the area the crews found that a man was trapped in his van as a result of the collision.

After liaising with paramedics the fire crews removed the van’s partition allowing them to lay the trapped man on a spinal board and slide him out to safety.

He was then taken to hospital by a waiting ambulance while crews made the area safe by disconnecting batteries.

The operation lasted about 45 minutes in total.
