A GROUP created to promote the health and wellbeing of older residents in and around Dursley is to take to the road to visit a different number of venues across the area.

World Jungle’s 'Full of Life' group is usually based at the Chantry Centre in Long Street, meeting regularly on a Thursday morning.

It was first devised as a place for like-minded people to regularly get together, access information and enjoy a range of different activities promoting health and wellbeing, all made possible by funding from Gloucestershire County Council’s Active Together grant.

Throughout this month and May the team will hit the road, taking activities to different venues across Cam and Dursley including Glebelands, Draycott, The Corriet, Cambridge House and Vizard Close sheltered housing schemes.

The trips are hoped to serve as a way of reaching potential new members, as well as supporting and developing existing groups in the area.

Project manager for World Jungle Fiona Campbell said: “We are delighted to be able to extend this project by taking it out to other groups in Cam and Dursley.

"‘Full of Life’ is all about helping to combat issues of loneliness and isolation, and helping people to feel healthier and more independent.

"By going out into the community we can not only reach more people but also support some of the wonderful groups that already exist.”

The team will come together again at the Chantry Centre to host a special 'Full of Life' event in May. This free event is open to all and will follow a similar format to the one held in October 2014 which attracted over 200 people.

There will be a variety of free activities to try, stalls, entertainment and lunch, and representatives from a range of local groups and organisations on hand to promote what is on offer within the community.

This event will also see the launch of World Jungle’s 'Full of Life' Online Directory listing local groups and clubs, weekly activities and support organisations - available to view in the ‘community’ section on the World Jungle website.
