LIBRARIES across Gloucestershire are offering free internet taster sessions to help the county's residents learn more about using computers and the internet as part of a national campaign.

The beginner classes will take place between April 20 and 26 as part of the 'spring online' campaign. Volunteers will be on hand to help residents learn more about setting up emails, accessing websites and searching the web.

As part of this awareness week, Gloucester Library will be holding a Gadget Day on April 24 from 10am until 3pm. This will offer customers the opportunity to try the libraries' tablets and eReaders.

Gloucestershire Libraries have free PCs which can be booked for two hours per day, with trained staff and volunteers to offer assistance and access to many free digital resources including Ancestry and Find My Past Family History websites and thousands of eBooks.

Cllr Andrew Gravells, cabinet member for libraries said: "This is a great opportunity for those new to the digital world to find out more about computers, apps and using the internet in a relaxed and informal environment.

"Trying something for the first time can be daunting, but with a friendly helping hand and a bit of practice we can get help get people started on their digital journey. I hope as many people as possible will visit their local library during 'spring online' and give digital technology a go. If I can send and receive emails, then anyone can."

Cheltenham, Gloucester and Cirencester libraries currently have WiFi, with all other libraries to follow soon.
