DRIVERS are being urged to be extra vigilant by Gloucestershire Police - following a spate of thefts from cars across the county.

Many of the offences that have occurred recently have been carried out at night, often targeting unsecure cars.

Senior harm reduction advisor at for the police Dave McFarlane said: “Let’s try and reduce the number of car break-ins by ensuring that we don’t make it easy for criminals to damage cars and steal personal belongings.

"Sensible precautions include locking vehicle doors and windows at all times; removing all valuables from vehicles when parked; parking in a conspicuous place or close to bright street lights; and removing satnav equipment."

Police urge members of the public to report any suspicious activity on 999 if they see a crime in progress or suspect one.
