A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD girl from Cam who made the decision to cut her hair for a cancer charity has now successfully completed the challenge – and raised £900 to boot.

Mia Sargent, a pupil at Cam Woodfield Infants School, heard about The Little Princess Trust – a national charity that makes wigs from real hair for young cancer patients – when the secondary school her dad works at in Gloucester held a fundraiser for the organisation.

She was so inspired by the idea that she wanted to donate her own hair, and after being made to wait six months by her parents she was still adamant it was something she wanted to go through with.

On Tuesday, May 19, Mia had her hair cut to a gathered crowd at her school and couldn’t be happier about it.

On top of the hair, Mia and her mum Sharon were keen to raise at least £350 for the charity, the money that it takes to make one of the wigs.

While many people donate hair to the trust, financial funding is something they receive less frequently.

Mia smashed the £350 target and ended up with £900 to give to the charity along with her hair.

Sharon said: “We are completely blown away by the generosity of friends and family, and are so proud to have smashed our target of £350 and to have raised just over £900.”

“In addition to generous donations to Mia’s fundraising page we had a raffle with donations from Cattle Country, At Bristol, Berry Blue Cafe and WWT Slimbridge, and a donation jar was put out at Wild Goose garage in Dursley.

“People are so kind.”
