A CHURCH fete in Wotton-under-Edge was a roaring success – raising more than £4,000 for church-led community projects.
The annual fete, hosted by St Mary’s Church in Wotton, was held earlier this month, offering a range of activities to scores of visitors of all ages.
Opened by BBC Points West presenter Ali Vowles, the event managed to raise £4,152, all of which will be shared between Wotton Youth Club, the Church Urban Fund and the Church Army.
Highlights on the day included a performance by Wotton Silver Band, country dancers from Wotton’s own The British School, and Wizzo the Wizard, who entertained both children and adults.
After opening the occasion Ali Vowles stuck around to judge the children’s ‘Vegetable Pet’ competition and announce the winner of the ‘Men’s Bake Off’.
Fete coordinator Lucy Chandler said: “As usual, the people of Wotton supported us wholeheartedly, and were rewarded with a lovely sunny afternoon in the grounds of St Mary's.”
