A COMMUNITY centre in Dursley celebrated 15 years of success as a hub for people in Cam and Dursley.

GL11 Community Hub celebrated their 15th birthday on Saturday and enjoyed musical performances, a barbecue and a visit from a special dog.

Manager of the hub Indigo Redfern was delighted with the event and said she and the rest of the team were looking forward to another 15 years.

To celebrate, the hub welcomed hundreds of people to a day jam-packed with activities and fun for all ages.

The team at GL11 also welcomed along two VIP guest to join the festivities - the giant Gromit Unleashed ‘Antique Rose Gromit’ which was designed by Cath Kidston in 2013 for The Grand Appeal Gromit trail and Steve Knibbs of BBC Points West fame.

Activities for children centred on the Gromit-theme with doggie biscuit decorating, Wallace and Gromit colouring GL11’s very own ‘Gromit Unleashed’ trail.

Fun was not only offered to children, and adults enjoyed a performance from the GL11 Voices Choir and had the opportunity to get involved in a ‘stitch your own bunting’ taster session with volunteer Helen Furmidge.

The ever-popular GL11 café was open for business – with a barbecue on offer too, both of which would not have been possible without our many volunteers, including Anthony Guiliano from Tesco Community team and Kate Harney from Imagine Nursery.

Thanks to our fantastic volunteers the whole event ran smoothly and was relaxed and enjoyable for everyone involved!

Indigo said: “It was fantastic to see so many people here celebrating our 15th anniversary.

“GL11 Community Hub has gone from strength to strength because the local community have worked together to make things happen here.

“We’ll keep on creating the warm hearted and thriving community that we love and need in Cam and Dursley. Here’s to the next 15 years.”
