DOZENS of Wotton-under-Edge residents enjoyed a Holiday at Home last week as part of an annual tradition led by churches in the town.

Wotton Churches Together – a collective of the churches in Wotton-under-Edge – hold an annual Holiday at Home in Wotton United Church for elderly residents who may struggle to get further afield.

This year it was Wotton Baptist Church in the role of organiser – and they invited scores of people into the United Church building for food, fun and a wide range of entertainment.

Invitations are sent out to elderly members of the community who may not have the opportunity to go abroad.

Audrey Horder, 73, of Wotton, is a member of the Baptist church and was tasked with coordinating this year’s event. Audrey and a helpers spent months planning with the end result of two successful days packed with entertainment,

“At first I thought ‘oh gosh’ and wasn’t sure whether I could do it. But after that I just got on with it.

“It was a real team effort with people from all of the churches making a contribution.

“From what I could gather they said it was wonderful. They went home with a smile on their faces, so that was a relief to see.”

The Holiday at Home spanned across Tuesday and Wednesday last week and about 70 people attended altogether.

Janet Shipton of Wotton organised the entertainment, which included crafts, singers, bell ringers and a magician.

Mrs Horder also said she would like to thank Alison and Mandy, who were in the kitchen coordinating food for the guests.
